Packing up!

Kayaks, Food, Beer, Wine, Water packed. Some meals cooked ahead and even some fermented foods are coming along for the ride.

I don't think I could fit anything else into the freezer but we still have some room in the fridge. Really pleased at how much we were actually able to get into it.

Doing the last bits of laundry now and after all that is in the trailer, all I will need is the Photo Gear and we'll be ready to go. Dropping Haley (our Golden) off at the sitters tonight and then we are heading off tomorrow morning.

Spending the first night with friends about 9 hours north and then we'll keep going north. And north... And north. The Fall Colours are amazing at the moment, apparently. Temps around 15-16 C with sunshine in the middle of the week look just about perfect. Nights will be cool around freezing, but that will hopefully get rid of the last of the pesky bugs.

Exciting things will be ahead. Stay tuned!

New tires

The last thing we still need now for our trip is new Trailer tires. The old ones would do for trips much closer to home. Risking to use the ones that came with the trailer could result in much higher costs in the end. So we are not going to chance it. Sitting at the tire shop making this blog post and just came across this on Facebook. Taken a few days ago in Tombstone Territorial Park. And yes, this will be part of the trip

oh, and here are the wheels.  So shiny!

Getting closer

Now that the structure of the Travel Trailer has been reinforced, I have been busy cleaning and turning it into our new home for the next few weeks.
We even slept in it for the first time this weekend and I think, we will feel pretty cozy on our trip.

Here a few pics of what it's like as of today.

When you come into the trailer, turn to the right and this is what you'll see.

View from the main door. Bathroom to the left.

we still need to make a Mirror Frame so we can put the mirror back on the wall. There was an old Medicine Cabinet there before, but it was broken, so we removed it.

And so it begins...

A trip from BC to the Yukon has been on our list of places to see for many years and this year it is finally happening.

So, planning has been quietly going on in our minds. Taking notes here and there. Places to see and things to do. But first we needed to find some flexible accommodations, so brainstorming about trailer, 5th wheel or camper begun. We went back and forth a few times but soon ruled out a camper. So down to 5th wheel and pull trailer it was. There seemed to be so many more 5th-wheels available and we started answering ads on Craigslist and Kijiji. We looked but there was always something that didn't feel quite right to either one of us. Too long, too short, or the wrong layout or the most tacky interior you could imagine.
Then one Friday night a few weeks ago, we found a travel trailer. 22' long and the layout that we have been looking for. It was sitting in Vancouver, which meant we needed to make a whirlwind trip to the coast to look at it. It seemed like a perfect unit so after a bit of negotiations, we bought it.

In the meantime, we have found a few little surprises that need to be fixed before taking her (or him) on this long haul. After all, we are hoping to at least cross the Arctic Circle with it, so it better be in good condition. :)

Anyway,  Sam thinks it won't be that much of a big deal to fix what needs to be fixed, so we are not shying away from the challenge. In the meantime I am having fun cleaning and making it ours on the inside.
